چکیده

The scale and diversity of the STOW 97 Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration placed significant challenges on the Run-Time Infrastructure prototype developed for STOW as well as the underlying network components. This paper presents an analysis of data collected during the ACTD to evaluate the performance of RTI-s in terms of the transport services and data distribution services that were provided. The performance of the State Consistent, Minimum Rate and Reliable services are examined as well as the contributions of message bundling and fragmentation. The effectiveness of the data distribution strategy employed in STOW is evaluated from the perspective of optimizing the performance of RTI-s.

5504: Building Advanced Autonomous AI Systems for Large Scale Real Time Simulations

In 1992, researchers from University of Michigan, University of Southern California Information Sciences Institute (USC/ISI) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), started work on a project to develop synthetic pilots for large-scale distributed simulations. The goal was to develop real-time high-fidelity models of human behavior. We built our synthetic pilots using an AI architecture called Soa...

An Implementation of a Data Consistency Mechanism

An important problem facing the ARPA STOW program is scaleability. The consistency mechanism supported by current DIS protocols – the transmit timeout/entity heartbeat – does not scale well. In a previous paper presented at the 12th Workshop, a number of alternative mechanisms for maintaining consistent state across distributed simulations were described. This follow-up paper describes the init...

An Architecture for Large ModSAF Simulations Using Scalable Parallel Processors

An implementation of ModSAF for Scalable Parallel Processors (SPPs) is presented. This model exploits the large number of processing elements and fast interprocessor communications of SPPs to simulate many thousands of vehicles on a single SPP. The implementation uses a heterogeneous assignment of tasks to processors, with most processors running independent copies of the standard SAFSim code a...

Health systems research initiative to tackle growing road traffic injuries in India

Road traffic injuries (RTIs) are the sixth leading cause of deaths in India and about 400 deaths take place every day due to road traffic accidents. The present paper analyses the data of the India’s National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) to assess the burden of RTI. In addition, it reports the health systems research initiated by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). As per NCRB data, in...

The Role of Speech in a Distributed Simulation: The STOW-97 CommandTalk System

We describe the role of CommandTalk during the 1997 Synthetic Theater of War (STOW-97) interoperability exercise. We present issues relating to the use of the speech recognition and synthesis components, and to the observed user error-feedback during this exercise. The purpose of CommandTalk for STOW-97 was to provide a spoken language interface to the ModSAF simulation. CommandTalk allows exer...
